The body of a fa’afafine found dead and hanging from the rafters of a church hall at Taufusi is still at the morgue. Police Spokesperson, Maotaoali’i Kaioneta Kitiona, confirmed this, saying they are awaiting a Pathologist to carry out a post mortem.

“It usually takes about three to four days for the Pathologist to get here,” he said.  “But we need to follow up again with the hospital as to why it is taking so long. “We don’t even know when the Pathologist will arrive. All we know is that we are waiting for the Pathologist.” The faafafine known as Jeanine Tuivaiki died last month.

At first, it was thought that suicide was the cause of death. “We found some marks on the body which indicate to us that suicide was not necessarily the cause of death and that’s what we want to look into some more.” Maota said the Police hope to have the post mortem done so Tuivaiki’s body can be released for burial.
