Use local pilots
Re: Reality kicks in for Samoa Airways
This is hardly unexpected; in fact it is highly predictable.
Both the Government and S.A. General Manager are making things worse for themselves by being so defensive and secretive.
Doing so is pointless because the main facts are already out there.
We can tell the overheads must be high because firstly they have chosen a quite new 737-800 instead of operating a much cheaper, say older 757 or 767.
These types use more fuel but are very much cheaper to lease per seat.
Secondly when the various youtube videos show the plane is being flown by Italian pilots, the over all cost of each pilot will be at least 150% higher than employing local pilots.
There are many Samoan pilots around the world who might fly for S.A. at “local” rates, I know many of them myself.
At the current rate, this venture will only end badly.
