Team Samoa third at Mini Games

Team Samoa has slipped to third spot on medal tally of the Mini Games in Vanuatu yesterday.

An update from Chef De Mission Nynette Sass said New Caledonia progressed to the top spot after receiving golds from Karate and Judo.

The statement also confirmed Samoa’s gold medals so far are all of the Weightlifting team.

“All the medals we have thus far are from weightlifting.

“The Samoa Weightlifting claimed 13 gold medals, eight silver medals and five Bronze medals from the South Pacific Mini Games.

“The Samoa Weightlifting team was also broke six new Pacific Games records.”

The Samoa ladies team also received a medal for the Samoa tally of results this afternoon.

“The Samoa Tennis team received a bronze medal this afternoon. The individual competitions for tennis will starts on Monday, together with the athletics.”

The Weightlifting team and table tennis team will be departing Vanuatu tomorrow.

“The weightlifting team and table tennis are due to depart here tomorrow morning and will arrive home on Monday afternoon around four in the afternoon, with 26 medals, half of the golds.”

The Rugby sevens will be having their finals later on today with Samoa likely to play Fiji for the Gold medal clash.

“Our sevens won all four pool games last night and will play Solomons in the semis whilst Fiji plays Tonga for the other.  Our time is 5pm. “We’re confident we will be in the finals at 7.45pm tonight against Fiji.”
