Father tries his best for his young family

Tomasi Tauai can definitely do with a helping hand.

The 26-year-old’s most pressing needs are water and decent home for his family.

Currently residing at Samusu, Tomasi wants to secure these basic things.

“I used to work before but I resigned because I couldn’t go to work; knowing that it’s only my wife and daughters at home,” he said.

“It’s not safe and they can’t survive on their own because my daughters are still young; they can’t go to work to get financial support for this family, they can’t do the plantation.”

“We also don’t have any water at the moment; the only source of water is from the rain, through a piece of metal spouse supplying water to our gallon and buckets.”

Tomasi said the water system wasn’t working when he moved into his wife’s village.

“When I married my wife and moved here, the water system wasn’t running well, and for other people that you can see who has access to water now, that’s new because we never used to have any.”

“We always had to fetch water from a far away well back then. So because of that situation we desperately needed water that’s close by so we dug up one of the water pipes here to try and get water and unfortunately the authorities came and fined us for that.”

“So until we can afford to pay $700 then they will install it again. And these days, if the water goes off, it goes off for about a month.”

“That’s why I made it my main responsibility to make sure my family has water everyday especially when I’m about to go visit my village (Saletele Fagaloa). I always make sure that they have enough water to last before I come back.”

Tomasi said he sometimes thinks about going back to work to make things easier but he can’t because his wife and kids need him at home.

“When I used to work for this contractual job, I always come back to find the grass growing longer than when I left and I don’t want my wife to do that kind of work while she looks after our baby. I don’t want my father in-law to come and do the work that I’m suppose to do so that’s why I’ve made a decision to do stay and take care of my family.”

“As you can see, this is what I do to help my family right now, working the lands.”

“The crops are not well developed yet so at the moment, I barely have anything to sell to earn a living.”

“And I humbly want to request for water help, if it’s not possible, then we would appreciate help with a water tank please.”

“You know for our house situation, I’m not ashamed to tell because I know we are people in need especially when the winds are too strong, we cannot stay in it because we don’t know what’s going to happen, so sometimes we move to my sister in-law’s place across the road.”

“Any help with lending some woods, cement and some roofing resources would be appreciated.”

“I just want to make this home a comfortable home for my girls.”
