Seventy-six-year-old Tole'afoa Segiali'i Tony Heems is willing to help the Manu Samoa Sevens team. For free.

The 76-year-old is willing to assist the boys in blue in terms of offering free entry to his gym and also to be their trainer. He believes there is still hope for the Manu Samoa team all that needs to be done is to polish their fitness.

“I am not taking sides of who is responsible of the end results of the boys’ games. I am here to offer them free programmes from the Heems Fitness."

“This is all to help them in their upcoming games for the 7's in the next month. I am willing to help them if they are up for it."

“I am aware that they are here now and while they are here they could make good use of the gym.”

He explained: “The Heems Fitness Centre offers free programmes to test their fitness, endurance or strength and power."

“The power that is within the legs and the body, all these equipment that are here is to help improve their fitness."

“I understand that there is no use to offer a free service and none of the players know what the programme that we are going to be doing is about, with their exercises and everything that has to do with their training."

“I have already prepared a programme for them to follow and all they need to do is show up. Everything will be free, my service and the gym.”

This is despite his age.

“I believe it is the coach that teaches the skills and everything, with the fitness is up to the boys’. Despite how excellent the skills may be, but if the player is not fit then it would not work, there will be no good combination."

“From my experience as a trainer, there are three things that are always needed, endurance, power and fitness. The three must work together with the other to have good results."

“There must be power in their legs to carry and hold their bodies in the games. Their fitness to see how far they could run from 10 meters to 25 meters and 50 meters."

“Does not matter if you are good player, but if you lack the three main methods of training then there is no use. You cannot do it.”

Having the squad prepared and be ready for their upcoming game is his goal behind the programme that he will be running.

“The player in any sport has to be prepared physically from head to toe. For any player, their weapon is their body to prepare to face the game."

“Muscles are very important to the body. Have you ever seen a skeleton that runs without any muscles? No there is not. The muscle is like a fuse box of the person. Having no muscles the skeleton cannot move and it controls the whole body."

“This is an offer and also to show them what to do. I could be their trainer and I would like to see them to get them tested during their fitness. I am willing to assist them if they want to.”
