Police record over 800 incidents in festive period

The Police have recorded a total of 873 incidents over the Christmas and New Year period which include one murder and two manslaughter cases.

The total incidents record is an increase of 16.6 per cent compared to the same period last year.

In a summary of the incidents that they have had to attend to over the festive season, they record one case of murder and two manslaughter incidents. 

There was a big spike in incidences of driving under the influence of alcohol compared to last year with the Police recording 46 arrests, which represented an increase of 119 per cent compared to last year. There was also an increase in careless driving cases with the Police recording 29 arrests which was an increase of 61 per cent. 

For the offence of intentional damage, the Police recorded 15 incidents which is a 200 per cent increase compared to last year. 

The number of arrests for this year amounted to 141 for traffic and criminal incidents, which is an increase of 34 per cent from the previous year. 

The Police acknowledged the community’s ongoing support and assistance during the festive period and wished everyone a peaceful 2019.
