Police investigations into the death of a 40-year-old man who went missing last Thursday after going for a swim will continue.

Police officer Tumaunei Soloi told the Samoa Observer yesterday that they do not have a timeframe on their investigations into the disappearance of Va Tua from Luatuanu’u and they will continue with their inquiry.

“As of now there is no further report, but all I can say now is that police and the village are still on the search for missing body until family has been satisfied,” he said.

Today will mark one week since the swimming incident at Luatuanu’u village when three men went for a swim. They hung on to a log, which was swept further out to sea by strong waves, resulting in one man dying in the swirl, another getting lost and the third hospitalised.

Va Tua is yet to be found by the Police and members of his family, who mounted a search at sea, after the three men were stricken by the tragedy last Thursday.

The family of Va Tua in Luatuanu’u village invited the public to join them in a candle light vigil on Monday night to remember their missing son.

A niece Vaelei Von Dincklage, in a Facebook post, said they would gather at the beach to hold a vigil.

“Tonight (Monday night) my family will be lighting candles at the beach for my uncle. If you wish to join us you are more than welcome. We will never stop until we find you,” she stated in her post.
