Health and fitness is what bodybuilding is all about.
Bodybuilding is a sport of form, but instead of movement the form involved is that of the body itself-the size-shape –proportion , detail and aesthetic quality of physique as developed in the gym, prepared by dieting, and displayed by performing bodybuilding poses.
Yesterday, The Bodybuilding Federation of Samoa (B.B.F.S) participated in the Samoa Games by hosting a workshop to develop and promote the sport of body building and fitness on a national scale.
The President of Bodybuilding Federation of Samoa a body builder himself, Benjamin Tamanikaiyaroi conducted the workshop which covered nutrition, alongside a regular exercise plan.
Tamanikaiyaroi was adamant that bodybuilding is more than just about muscles but about health and fitness.
He stated, “Bodybuilding is not just physical. Not just building muscle. Its also mental preparation: understanding your body type, how much fat you have in your body, how much lean muscle mass you have in your body. And from there, working on a proper diet program, a proper nutrition program or proper training program to help you fit into that weight category when you’re competing.”
Body building was once a flourishing sport in Samoa but has stagnated. Tamanikaiyaroi alongside his team has adamantly worked to revitalize the sport by spreading awareness.
He stated, “Right now its still at the development stage. What we’re trying to do is educate most of these young athletes that are coming out. Its been idle for a couple of years now, I think because they were not creating awareness and creating promotions and stuff like that .”
B.B.F.S trains daily at J.P. Fitness Center in Mulivai and is open for anyone who is interested in the sport.
