Making a difference

Whoever wins the Blue Sky Miss Samoa Pageant 2016 crown will automatically join Quenjule Slaven and her community project to tackle poverty through literacy.

Quenjule’s project is to provide a support group for our children who are victims of child labour. This support group will volunteer their time to provide basic education such as literacy and mathematics after hours and totally free of charge.

And Pageant Director, Laeimau Oketevi Tanuvasa Savea has committed for the next Miss Samoa to be an advocate and support Quenjule

Said Tanuvasa;

“It’s in line with the event’s mission to provide a ‘Pageant with a Difference.’

“When it comes to education, the 8 contestants are united in helping in any role.

“And it’s only fitting for the new Miss Samoa to play a leading role.”

“I am honoured and humbled,” said Quenjule.

“Having Miss Samoa as one of our influential supporters is a privilege and will greatly assist with our drive to recruit more volunteers to help as cater for the growing number of students taking part.”

The programme started with a couple of children mainly street vendors but the numbers have sky rocketed to over 20 children, many of them who do not have the opportunity to study.

For Quenjule, all children regardless of their economic and social background have the right to education and to live a life free from fear of violence and discrimination.

As part of literacy week celebrations, Quenjule played host to the 8 Blue Sky Miss Samoa Pageant 2016 contestants Monday afternoon during her weekly session at the Nelson Memorial Library in downtown Apia.
