“I may be 76, but I am still strong”

Fagasau Lole Laulu, aged 76 from the village of Fasitoo-Uta, may be living alone but her joy leaves her without a worry in the world.

Yesterday, Fagasau had a big smile on her face.

“My husband passed away three years ago and now it’s just me here at home,” she explained.

“I have four children and most of them are living with their spouse’s family, I have another child living over in New Zealand.

“I am just waiting to see if my child in overseas will send some money over because he just went there recently. Our plan is that he will go find a house for us to live in.

“I am not worried at all, God is alive.”

Asked if she was in need of anything, she replied that she is living in the mercy of the Lord.

“We have water here, but I live on faith and prayer that I might get some blessings,” Fagasau said.

“Maybe I might get some money from people. I don’t have my children here to go out and earn some money for us because I just have one who just left for overseas.

“But even until now I still haven’t heard from him; I don’t know if it’s good news or if he has found something for us.”

How is everything with the Church and Village, Fagasau was asked: “The church is great,” she quickly replied.

“The only thing we do for the church is just tithing. I attend the Assembly of God. My church sign is just down the road.

“If I get money from my sibling who is a Taylor in Papauta, I just put aside what I need for my tithing and the rest goes to buying sugar, coffee, soap and so on.”

According to Fagasau, she has been living this way for three years and she is ok with it.

“I have been living by myself for three years now,” she said.

“I do my own chores and if I have enough money then I’ll hire someone to come and mow my lawn which was recently done.

“I am ok with food; there is a lot of food around and I don’t worry about that; but I do when it comes to the good things. I do have chickens and when I don’t have money then I’ll boil an egg.

“I have pigs and chickens. To be honest with you, I have no worries at all, if I don’t have money, my Lord still lives to provide me with money.

“You have come and you see that I am very happy; that’s because I just got home from a prayer meeting. I go early morning every day.”

When asked about her living standards, she replied.

“My child who went overseas will try and send over some tin for the house,” Fagasau said.

“I have been living here ever since my eldest child was seven. I told my child who is going  overseas that I will wait for the rapture and that all we need is for Lawrence (son) to just work for some tin for the house.

“When the rapture comes then I can’t go and take my house with me but I just want a house for my children to come and stay in.

“I am 76-years-old and I am still very strong.”

All in all, Fagasau is living a very joyful and appreciative life.

“I am happy living a free life and on things for the body,” she said.

“If it’s God’s will, I am sure that I will get some money when I go out. I might go to do something in Apia and I might get blessed with money if I run into someone.”
