“Japan is committed to funding projects for grassroots communities under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects introduced in 1991. Since then, more than 150 projects have been successfully completed,” he said.

These developments are very vital to the Government of Japan which sees to enhance standards of facilities to ensure stable and healthier learning environments for the children of Samoa, in line with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture initiative “Minimum Service Standards” (MSS) for schools, implemented in 2010.

This initiative includes standards such as School Environment for which schools need to achieve safety and secure school buildings.

Japan’s “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects” provides assistance to non-governmental organizations, primary schools, hospitals and other non-profit associations that have a direct impact on the well-being of communities.
