On 23 January 2016, heavyweight boxer Lupesoliai Joseph Parker will stage his first fight in Samoa. He is fighting American boxer, Jason Bergman, in what will be a very important fight as Lupesoliai gears up for a big year. Do you think Lupesoliai is ready for a title fight? Vatapuia Maiava asked in today’s Street Talk and this is what people said:

Yes I do believe he’s ready for the championship fight. He’s a good boxer and he has a very good support system behind him. A little more training wouldn’t hurt though. He is a very proud Samoan and I would love to see him in a title fight.

Edward Tuilagi
Siusega

Yes he is ready. He has already proven that he has the credentials for the big fights. He is big, fast and has a lot of power. Most importantly in my opinion, he is a humble boxer with determination and heart. Anything is possible for any person with those qualities.

Malaefatu Natauielu
Vaivase

If the fight was to happen tomorrow then he’s not ready. Preparation is key if he wants to take a leap in his career. I believe that in about two more years he would have the experience and training for world championship fights. They shouldn’t rush him. He is a young man and time is on his side. Be patient.

Fefiloi Kerstin
Siusega

It’s hard to say because I’m not a professional boxer but judging from his previous fights I believe that he is ready. If Parker doesn’t try then he will never know. So far he has proven he has the skills and the determination to be the very best. He needs to be in the right frame of mind and be prepared.

Zar Sapate
Vailima

Yes he is ready for another milestone in his career. He’s a big guy with a lot of strength and full of humility. He should do well with a bigger fight. Having said that, they need to start finding him some quality opponents, guys who will really test him. I don’t think he has really been tested yet.

Sina E.S
Alafua

I don’t think Parker is ready. He may have won a few fights locally and regionally but he has a lot of work to do before he think about hopping on the global scale. He should be ready after gaining more experience. I’m looking forward to his fight in Samoa. It should be a good one.
