Samoa is hosting the East Asia Pacific Region U19 Cricket tournament which starts today.

Four teams will be competing in the qualifying tournament, including Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Samoa.

Sala Stella Tagitau, General Manager of Samoa International Cricket, told Samoa Observer that the winner and second place getters will go through to the International Cricket Council’s U19 World Cup.

Fiji was the previous U19 World Cup East Asia representative.

Team Manager Samoa Loau Talapusi Tuisila told the Samoa Observer the Samoan team is well prepared.

He said they have put together a strong and young team which the management believes will put up a strong performance and will take us to the World Cup.

“Only two out of 14 of our team played in National level before, so basically our team is new on this platform, but we have established skills and mindset to make sure they’re ready,” said Loau.

Loau added that his team is ready.
