For Kulesa Faiva, 45-years old from Sauano, Fagaloa, his number one roles is to provide for his family.

“Being a family-man working for the family is one of the greatest gift that God has ever given to me” he told Village Voice.

“At first I was thinking of getting a job to help my family out but I know that the plantation does earn us lots of money

“So instead of depending on other people to come over and take your role as a hard working person providing for your family, you need to work on your own.

“It’s great for us because we live far away from the town area so we’ve got nowhere to go to we just develop the plantation for our family.

“You know we’re used to being here despite the distance because we like working and the land is good for farming.

“We been asking the government many times to fix our roads but the result is, nothing has been done so we have to fix it by ourselves.

“Some new people thought that we live too far away but it only takes 30 minutes to get out of this village.

“I have many other things to do just to help my family not only planting, but carving too.

“Then I sell it at the market or sometimes other people give me orders so I end up earning near thousands a week or for two weeks.

“Some people think that life is very hard but to me it’s not because if you don’t work hard for your family that’s when you believe that life is hard.

“But we shouldn’t complain about it because we are used to it even though life is very expensive but everything we do is for the sake of our family.”

Kulesa says that whatever comes his way, he can deal with it.

“The thing is we have to be strong for our family.

“We know how hard life is and we have been facing it for so long all we have to do is to work hard and make sure our family do not starve.”
