Teachers in schools have poor English skills

Dear Editor

Re: Learning in schools Samoan? English or both?

I couldn’t agree more … be proud of your language but more importantly go to school where the teaching standards are high enough to satisfy our students’ academic needs in Samoa. English and other languages are just as important as each other.

Learning any language comes with its unique challenges so if you learn something make sure what you are learning is legitimately usable in the future.

Too many students are entering Teaching College at NUS with extremely poor language skills. Ask yourself the reason why. If standards are poor, everyone loses out.
