Father does his best and more for family

A successful man continues to look for work even when he already has a formal job.

That is exactly the case for Filiki Ta’ei of Talimatau and Satupaitea, Savai’i. Speaking to the Village Voice team, the 44-year-old said he works for the Samoa Sports Facilities Authority.

“I am the source of income for my family so that is why I work hard at what I do,” he tells the Village Voice.

“My job covers everything that we need; pays for my children’s school, buy our food, pay for all the bills. “I guess as a father I feel obligated to do all those things for my family.

“And when I’m off work, I always try to use my time to do little things like making food for the family, cleaning up the lands and all that.

“That is why you caught me here with these woods because I just got back from getting woods to build something for our kitchen.”

Filiki is a father to 3 children, one currently in school at Vailoa while the other two are still not old enough to attend school.

“At the moment, only my eldest son goes to school.

“So what I’m doing now is paying for his school and save up for my other children’s education while I still can.

“Because you know there are times when money is not enough or we have financial problems but it’s always good to have a plan for our children.

“Sometimes we even deal with so many obligations and honestly it doesn’t feel good to be having so much on our plates.

“So I’m used to working hard and I think it has always been in my nature.

“But all fathers would do everything to get their families the life they deserve because that’s why we were put on this earth.”
