The journey of a humble mother who defied the odds to raise a very successful family was celebrated at Hotel Tanoa Tusitala on Friday night.

The occasion to do this was her 80th birthday. Born on 6 January 1937, Leotina Semua Mala, is from the village of Lepa.

The occasion was well attended by family and friends.

Among the guests were the Associate Minister of M.C.I.T, Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi and the Consul General of Samoa in Auckland, Fa’aolotoi Reupena Pogi.

Galumalemana Motugaafa Semua paid tribute to a hard working and God-fearing mother who loves unconditionally.

“Our mother is a very hard working person,” she said.

“She loves her family very much and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren we are who are and what we have become because of her hard work.”

“For her to reach her 80th birthday is sign of blessings from God.”

“God made our mother live this long because He wants her to see the fruits of her work that she had been doing for all these years through us.”

“This is the least we as her children can do for her compared to all the years that she looked after and took good care of us.”

“So this is a milestone for her and us because some people they don’t live to get to the years that she has reached and so we thank God for bringing our mother this far.”

Leotina was married to the late Semua Mala and they have eight children. She has 33 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
