Celebrating the legacy of Pacific women

In conjunction with its 70th Anniversary this year, the Pacific Community (S.P.C) would like to pay tribute to the important role of Pacific women towards the improvement of Pacific Island lives.

The organization is inviting the public from across the region to participate in a campaign to celebrate the legacy of Pacific women.

S.P.C is calling for submissions to help identify 70 women or groups of women who have made a significant contribution to the social, economic, cultural and political development in Pacific Island countries and territories.

The 70 successful submissions will be shared via S.P.C’s corporate media platforms in the build-up to the 13th Triennial Conference of Pacific Women, to be held in Suva, Fiji in October this year.

S.P.C works in partnership with diverse actors of the civil society, government institutions, and regional and international organizations to advance gender equality in Pacific Island countries and territories.

S.P.C’s work involves providing technical support to the countries to enable them to achieve their commitments to gender equality and the human rights of women and girls.

“This campaign will contribute to efforts on profiling the significant contribution that women continue to make towards development in the Pacific region,” S.P.C’s Social Development Programme Director, Leituala Kuiniselani Toelupe Tago-Elisara said.

“As a build up to the 13th Triennial Conference of Pacific Women, this campaign is about acknowledging the work of women before us and utilising this information to help us shape the strategic direction for progressing gender equality in the region.”

Submissions close on 15 July 2017. Brigitte Leduc SPC Gender Equality Advisor, [email protected]
