Taula Apia Rugby Union Shield holder B.B.E. Vaiala Rugby Club defended their title at Apia Park Stadium last weekend.

Vaiala defeated Letogo, 69-5

Despite playing 14 men after Captain, Siliva Tapu, was red- carded within the first 30 minutes of the game, B.B.E Vaiala Rugby Club still scored 11 tries.

Letogo scored one try within the first 20 minutes but their continuous mistakes cost them the game, with B.B.E Vaiala taking control of possession throughout the game.

Round three of the Taula Apia Rugby Union also welcomed former Apia West teams, with the likes of Marist St Joseph’s Rugby Club and Vaimoso Rugby Club returning, and joining for the first time, Moamoa Rugby Club.

Other results from the Taula Apia Rugby Union Senior A’s competition over the weekend saw Moata’a Rugby Club defeat Vailele, 19-10, with Apia Maroon Rugby Club defeating Vaimoso Rugby Club, 26-21.

Magiagi Lupe o le Soaga Rugby Club welcomed the Moamoa Rugby Club in a tight contest at the Apia Park field No.2 where Moamoa went down 10-15.

The Marist St Joseph’s Rugby Club and school rivals, S.C.O.P.A. would have to be the most entertaining match of the day.

Marist requested prior to their re-joining the Apia Rugby Union, for S.C.O.P.A to be their opponent.

Marist dominated much of the first half of their game against S.C.O.P.A., going into the break with a healthy 20-7 points lead to S.C.O.P.A.

S.C.O.P.A did not stop there as they continued fighting back with their prop, Petaia, scored within the first 10 minutes of the second spell.

S.C.O.P.A’s momentum was later denied when Marist’s Fetu Sasalu scored a try from inside their half, followed by a successful conversion.

Not giving up easy, S.C.O.P.A fought back with Mark Tanuvasa scoring another to close the gap 27-21.

They conceded another try in the corner but the conversion was unsuccessful.

At the end, Marist St Joseph’s Rugby Club won, 27-26,
