Participating in the Independence Parade was not enough for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to remember the special day.

After joining thousands of Samoans in the parade during the morning, all the employees of the Ministry gathered at the Archery field at Tuanaimato where they enjoyed a variety of fun games to commemorate this year’s Independence celebrations.

It was the first time the Ministry has hosted a Sports Day during Independence.

The Chief Executive Officer of the M.N.R.E, Suluimalo Amataga Penaia said the idea was to get all the workers together and have fun.

“We have many different divisions in our Ministry and this was a great opportunity for everyone to get to know one another and enjoy a few games,” he said.  “Unfortunately, we couldn’t have all our workers from Savaii to be with us here, but we are happy that we got the chance to mingle with all our staff and enjoy ourselves to celebrate this year’s celebration.”

It was also a good way to exercise, said Suluimalo. “Our government is promoting healthy living and we thought we would support that by having our Ministry participate in a few friendly and fun games as one big happy family.” The ministry was divided into four teams:- Red Team, Blue Team, Green Team and Yellow Team. The Yellow team was the winner of the day, and the C.E.O, Suluimalo won the Sportsperson of the Day.
