Bedridden elderly mother needs help

Bedridden and with not steady supply of water, Litia Apulu spoke up about her daily struggles yesterday.

Growing up in Leauva’a in a Samoan fale, the 70-year-old said they still don’t have proper water supply.

The mother of six shared that they live off their neighbour’s tap.

For more than a month, she has been bedridden due to her age

She also suffers from high blood pressure.

“We don’t have water,” she said.

“We are still waiting for the water supply to reach our area. The authorities have been saying that they’re coming but up until we are still waiting for them to come.”

“I don’t know how long I have been living here but I grew up in this house without having any water.”

She is desperate for a water tank.

There are so many chores in a family that water is needed the most such as cooking but there is nothing she says, everything for her becomes a double portion of complicated.

“I was ill ever since last year and just yesterday I was rushed to the hospital again. I have high blood pressure and people usually ask me what’s on my mind but as a grandmother I worry about my grandchildren all the time.”

“There are just so many of them that are living with us; I have three children that live with us together with their partners and children while the other three are with their spouses.”

Mrs. Apulu is certain that so many things that are not in order in their house contribute to her illness.

The Tropical Cylone Gita was another one.

“The cyclone ruined many things in our house and I don’t know where to begin since there are so many damages but yet we do not have enough money.”

“There is no extra money to be spent. We always need to prioritize the kids, I have four toddlers and one infant to look after but on the other hand I have three others that are in school.”

“So by the end of the day, all the money would have already been spent on the welfare of the children.”
