Tennis hot shots championship

Last Saturday, the Tennis Samoa Complex Stadium was filled with parents, teachers and families of tennis supporters. Two months of “ HOT SHOT TENNIS ” at school and Saturday competitions in which about 50 to 60  Hot-Shot competitors battled it out for the last five Saturdays has come to an end. 

This is part of the International  Junior Tennis Initiative & Australian Open Pacific Pathway sponsored school tennis program. Participant schools, Samoa Primary, Peace Chapel Primary School, Ah Mu Academy School, Robert Louis Stevenson School and Vaiala Beach School were introduced to the Program- Red Ball- stage 1 late last year which mounted to last Saturday’s Championships. Major sponsor, BUSINESS SYSTEM LTD, provided all the engraved trophies and gift vouchers worth $3000.00 and associate sponsor Samoa Breweries provided Minute Maid Juice & T-shirts by Samoa Breweries for the prizes. 

RESULTS:

2016 Hot Shots – (Red ball stage) Years 3 Boys :1st  Aaron Carruthers (Boy-VBS), 2nd Tuifiti Kerslake (Boy-SPS). Years 3 Girls : 1st-Alexis Tapusoa (Girl-RLSS), 2nd = Sophie Enderman (SPS) & Jaden Craig(VBS). Years 4 Boys: 1st Darius Carruthers(VBS), 2nd Johnny(SPS). Years 4 Girls: 1st Lagi Leavai(SPS), 2nd Lorianna (Ah Mu Academy).  Years  5 Boys- 1st Soopoaga Leavai(PCS), 2nd David Tuala(VBS)/Richard Enosa(SPS). Years 5 Girls: 1st Mahina Warren(VBS), 2nd Lily Ott(SPS).

BSL 2016 Overall School Champion – Vaiala Beach School. BSL Sportsmanship School – Samoa Primary School. Hot Shot Teacher Champion – Mr Taleni(Peace Chapel), Runner-up- Mr Levaula(Samoa Primary). 

About 20 competitiors and helpers all received t-shirts and gift vouchers from Business System Ltd. 

The School Tennis Program is part of building up younger players at early stages, using the modified balls; red, orange and green, each have different compression, smaller nets  and smaller rackets, which  is more proper, fun and  suitable for different players strength and ability.  

The aims of the sessions – involves these  Objectives : Fundamental Motor Skills, Perceptual Motor skills and learning through  Play- “ Serve, rally and score. 

The concept in “ Serve, Rally and Score” for all new  players within the  sessions are guided and with this more easier and fun approach, we will look at developing participation  in numbers in tennis with more players.

Many of the parents, who came to cheer their children’s Championships commented   that they loved and enjoyed the game, "we were even woken up even before daylight, because they want to play the Hot Shot Tennis".

SECOND STAGE: ORANGE BALL & GREEN BALL  where all the players who had played in the Red Ball. 

The program will be specially trained on Saturdays, using the Orange Ball on  ¾ of the full tennis court, in which they will progress on the Full Tennis Court and in the Tennis Samoa 10’s Squad.
