Happiness is contentment

A happy life is a long life.

At 64-years-old Simone Lemalie, of Le’auva’a, says he wants to be happy no matter what.

“My family is doing alright at the moment,” he said.

“Even though there are challenges, we do our best every day to survive.”

Simone said their livelihood depends on their plantation. It’s not a lot of money but he says it is more than enough.

“We have our own plantation to rely upon every day, not only for food but for money as well.

“We have a good source of water and everything is alright.”

Simone agrees that life has become too expensive.

But it doesn’t have to be if you don’t want an expensive life.

“I grow bananas, cucumbers, pumpkins at the back of our house,” he said.

“My son also works, but what we earn from our plantation really helps.”

“I don’t want to say more about the cost of living, we all know that life is difficult.”

He reminds that God blesses the hands that work.

“This life is all about knowing and trusting yourself first then do whatever you believe will pay you back.”

“We have lands to work with and grow whatever we want.”

“King Solomon wrote that we must put our trust in the LORD with all our heart and lean not on your own understanding and strength.”

“We have to keep on trying and trust in Him, and if we keep working, we will get it no matter how hard life is.”

Simone said life is peaceful in the village.

“In Samoa there are some villages that are still under the guidance of matai and faipule but most of the villages are not”

“As a father, I prefer my children to be raised and to grow in the village.”

“Because, there is a huge difference between life in the village and life in Apia.”

“In Apia, most villages don’t have village councils and there are a lot of problems.”

“For your information, our village is one of the most beautiful villages in Upolu and have been to competitions in terms of beautifying villages back in the days and we’re still doing that traditions up until today.”
