The government’s newest Chief Executive Officers can now be revealed.

Although Cabinet has yet to make the official announcement, the Samoa Observer can tell you today that the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration and the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture have new C.E.Os.

While Karoline Afamasaga-Fuata’i has been appointed to head the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture, former A.C.E.O Papali’i John Taimalelagi has been handed the top job at the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration.

Mrs. Afamasaga-Fuatai will take over from Matafeo Falanaipupu Aiafi while Papali’i replaces one of the government’s longest serving C.E.Os, Masinalupe Tusipa Masinalupe.

Contacted for a comment yesterday, the Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Tu’u’u Dr. Ieti Taulealo, declined to discuss the appointments.

 “Cabinet has already made a decision but we are still waiting for the official announcement from them,” he said.

Tu’u’u said the new posts are among a number of government ministries starting the year with new C.E.Os.

Neither Mrs. Afamasaga-Fuata’i nor Papali’i could be contacted for a comment yesterday.

But Matafeo has already confirmed plans to contest one of the Urban Seats in the General Elections in March. He has held the post for two terms. Masinalupe on the other hand has been one of the longest serving C.E.Os in government.

Mrs. Afamasaga-Fuatai and Papali’i will join four other new C.E.Os who started their new jobs yesterday.

Towards the end of last year, Cabinet approved the appointment of four new Chief Executive Officers for the Ministry of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (M.P.M.C); Ministry for Revenue (M.O.R); Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (M.F.A.T); Ministry of Finance (M.O.F) and the Ministry of Works Transport and Infrastructure (M.W.T.I).

The new C.E.Os are:

• Ministry of the Prime Minister and Cabinet: Agafili Tomaimanō Shem Leo;

• Ministry for Revenue: Avalisa Viali Fautuaalii;

• Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade:  Peseta Noumea Simi;

• Ministry of Works Transport and Infrastructure: Su’a Poumulinuku Onesemo.

Their appointments officially began yesterday.

Cabinet is also expected to make a decision on the Attorney General soon.
