Fire claims one life, flames contained

The explosion that started the fire at one of three fuel tanks at the Matautu Wharf has claimed one life.
Confirmed by the emergency workers, the man was carrying out maintenance work at the tank when it exploded today.
According to reports, he and another man were evacuated to the Moto’otua hospital.
Attempts to get an official comment from the hospital were unsuccessful.
In the meantime, there are signs that the flames at the burning tank have died down.
