Tafa’igata dump is still burning

Contrary to claims by the Fire and Emergency Services Authority that a fire at the Tafa’igata Dump has been put out, a member of the public yesterday sent this photo to the Sunday Samoan with a note.

It reads:  “Had a laugh today whilst reading the Tafaigata dump fire article in the Observer; especially where mention was made the "fire was out", and also "the smoke had reduced".

It took these pictures over the course of 3 days (taken on Thursday morning and Saturday morning).

From my observation it does not appear to have changed/reduced at all, and has been burning steadily throughout the three days.

I don't even want to begin to imagine the contents of the smoke fumes that are permeating from the dump. I really feel for all affected residents that are downwind of this toxic cloud! Blessed Sunday all.”
