Roadblocks across Upolu and Savai’i have recorded over two dozen drinking and driving related offences since Christmas.

In a media statement, Samoa Police Service said they recorded 22 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol, since their festive season operations began on 21st December 2018.

Six people were charged with refusing to take a Breathalyzer test, two with negligent driving causing injury in Savai’i, and two for dangerous driving.

“SPS would like to remind the public to refrain from driving while under the influence of alcohol,” the statement continues.

“Road Blocks will continue to set out randomly not only to deter drink driving as well as monitoring other traffic violations.”

The New Year’s roadblock operations conclude today and the Samoa Observer understands results will be released shortly thereafter.
