Govt. rewards excellence in Health and Safety
The Government has honoured exceptional Occupational Safety and Health (O.S.H.) efforts with the Stewardship Award for members of the public and private sector.
The Award was hosted by the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Labour (M.C.I.L.) as part of local commemoration for World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
Every year, the International Labour Organization (I.L.O.) worldwide commemorates World Day for Safety and Health at work, and this year was a little different.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work and the World Day Against Child Labour was celebrated together, as part of a joint campaign to improve the safety and health of young workers and end child labour.
The aim was to accelerate action to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (S.D.G.) target 8.8 of safe and secure working environments for all workers by 2030 and S.D.G. target 8.7 of ending all forms of child labour by 2025.
The theme for this year is Occupational Safety Health (O.S.H.) was vulnerability of young workers.
On Monday, the Ministry conducted a Public Awareness programme by setting up informational booths throughout. The aim was to educate and instil the message about Safety and Health capturing youth that are currently in the workforce, youth seeking work/about to work and students.
The day ended with the Occupational Safety and Health (O.S.H.) Stewardship Award which was hosted by the Ministry to recognise businesses, organisations and ministries that have complied with the Act and Regulations on Occupational Safety and Health.
This is the second O.S.H. Stewardship Award the Ministry has hosted. It is held every two years.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an annual international campaign that promotes safe, healthy and decent work. It is held on 28 April and has been observed by MCIL since 2013. The following are the Occupational Safety & Health Stewardship Award Winners;
