Six students will attend the N.U.S. Foundation Year free of charge thanks to the giving hearts of the women of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa at Taga, Savai’i.

And for one relieved parent, Fetuao Elu Tamala, the help could not have come at a better time.

“Under the leadership of Reverend Simalu and Nefunefu Kovati, the Mafutaga Tina has offered financial assistance to the students of our Sunday School,” she said.

“All six students who have reached the marks to attend the Foundation year have been given financial assistance."

“As a parent who struggles to put children through schools, this is a welcome gesture."

“I can’t thank our church enough for investing in the education of our children.”

She commended Mrs. Nefunefu Kovati who saw there was a need for assistance and she acted immediately.

Mrs. Kovati told the Samoa Observer they are proud of the students’ achievements.

“We have had students in the past who do not complete their courses given that parents could not afford to pay school fees,” she said.

“And so for this year, we felt that it is our duty to lend a hand for our students and offer to pay for their school tuitions."

“What better way to invest our money than directing it to our children’s education and future."

“At the end of the day, it is our duty to assure our children are given the opportunity to exceed through their education,” she said.

The C.C.C.S. Mafutaga Tina presented $9,000 for six students to pay their tuition. Each student received $1,500.

The students are Teuila  and Olive Tagaloa; Fuapepe Maresa; Talaleleiovaipouli Tamala; Sine Fegauiai and Ioelu Lealofi Simi.

Mrs. Kovati says it is unclear whether they will make this an annual event, but they will offer assistance when necessary for their students.

In the meantime, Mrs. Tamala hopes the gesture by the Taga Mafutaga Tina will inspire others to consider following the example set.
