Man charged for raping tourist

Allegations that an Australian tourist was raped has led to the arrest and charging of a man.

This was confirmed in a statement by the Ministry of Police. 

The 30-year-old tourist lodged a complaint on Wednesday against a 32-year-old male of Sinamoga.

This is in connection to an alleged rape in the early hours between 4am and 5am on the same day. 

“The victim was taken to the Moto'otua Hospital for medical check,” stated the police statement. 

The defendant had since been criminally charged with sexual violation and remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court for criminal mention on December 10, 2018.
