Testing legislation

Re: Diplomatic passport for Tui Atua

I suspect that Samoa’s legislation has never even considered the situation of retired Heads of State because none have ever previously “retired”.

It was careless of government not to consider the situation before Tui Atua stepped down.

I have no doubts that Hon. Tuilaepa has taken careful note of the allowances and considerations made available to Sir John Key after he recently retired from NZ parliament.

There are no doubt provisions being prepared for retired Samoan Prime Ministers.

As both a retired Prime Minister and a retired Head of State Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese should be entitled to similar consideration. If the matter was put to a public referendum there would be almost unanimous approval.
