The defending champions of the Samoa Independence International 7s tournament, Ulalei Vaiala, is on track to maintain their title.

The star-studded team went through yesterday’s pool round undefeated, with wins over Fiji Naduku, St. Pierre and Puaoto’a.

Today, the men in black will face old rivals, Moata’a in the quarter finals.

Other quarter finals will see Taveuni Fiji play All Nations. P.P.S. Vikings from Savai’i will take on Puaoto’a, while Apia Maroon will face the Vikings Development team, also from Savai’i.

Yesterday was an entertaining first day.

Pool A was dominated by Taveuni. They smashed their first two opponents.

Their last game against the Vikings Development from Savai’i was by far the tougher encounter.

The two teams met for the final match of day one and presented an evenly matched contest.

The visitors did just enough to win and secure top place.

P.P.S. Vikings is one of the new teams this year and upset Moata’a to claim the top Pool position.

Pool C saw the defending Champions from last year, Ulalei Vaiala, dominate.

The Blackies’ combination of Manu Samoa 7s stars, Patrick Fa’apale, Alatasi Tupou, Lester Sefo, Tofatu Soliola, and Siaosi Asofolau was superb.

Naduku from Fiji was on holiday yesterday and they remained winless after day one.

Puaoto’a is another underdog team this year claiming the second place for Pool C.

In Pool D, Apia Maroons finished on top winning all their three games. All Nations finished second while Satalo and Toa Mulifanua will head to the Trophy quarter finals.
