Happy 10th birthday, Baby Miracle!

A baby who has lived to defy all the odds, Baby Miracle Julie Nanai, is celebrating her 10th birthday today.

Baby Miracle was not expected to survive for more than a few hours. When she was born, doctors had even decided she should not be fed. They told Miracle's parents that she should die within hours. Ten years on, Baby Miracle is alive and healthy.

Her surrogate mother, Papali’i Carol Ah Chong, writes:

In January 2008, we took you to America when you were only four months old for medical treatment, because you were a fighter and had proved to the world that you wanted to “live”!

You underwent seven major operations at Miami Children’s Hospital, Florida, and after five and a half months of extensive treatments, the specialists told us “take Miracle home, we have done all we can for her, her life is in God’s hands now, and the key to her survival is the aftercare that she will receive from here on in."

So, at nine months old, we brought you back home to Samoa, and you have continued to “fight” for the life that God breathed into you, when you were born on 1 September 2007.

You amaze us as you continue to flourish and grow under our Heavenly Father’s watchful eye and protection.

You love warm cuddles and butterfly kisses, love to listen to soothing music and to hear the familiar voices and sound of giggles and laughter in the home, you love your long warm baths and exercise routine, you love to pose for a photo shoot, and most of all, you love prayer time!

It matters not that you cannot see, that you cannot walk, that you cannot talk, that you are paralyzed from the chest down, that you survive on a pure liquid diet and that you are fed through a G-tube.  Why? Because God has gifted you life and with that life you exude His love to those with whom you come in to contact.  You have taught -- and continue to teach -- the world that LIFE is precious and is to be valued and treasured because it is God’s gift to each and every one of us.  That is your mission and your “purpose” in life.

Continue to fight the good fight and you will win the race, Miracle, because you are a child of God, and He loves you very much.  Every new day which dawns is a gift from HIM to you.

God bless you little one, today, tomorrow, and always!
