Water is life.

The widely held belief is shared by Iamua Te’a Mumuu Su’e, of Nuu-fou.

The only problem for the 43-year-old is that the supply of water to his home is disconnected because they cannot afford the water bill.

Iamua lives with his daughter who is a first year student at the N.U.S.

“Since my sister left and moved overseas, we decided to come here and develop it on our own,” he said. “The problem is there’s no water.”

“We’ve been facing this problem for so long. I had a talk with the Water Authority regarding the water supply and I also asked the Minister of Education during the time I worked for the Ministry for some help.”

But it hasn’t changed anything.

“This land belongs to my sister and her family. She decided to give it to me then we moved in. We received the water bills but it’s way too much.”

“I am struggling to work things out to get our water back because every day I collect water from our neighbors, or we just wait till it rains to have clean water for food.”

“Luckily it’s only me and my daughter who live here.”

Iamua said he would love some help.

He said he has seen many families move in next to him and they have been able to get their water going.

But he is waiting for a response to his plea.

In the meantime, he is also looking for another job.

“My priority is my daughter’s education,” he said.

“I also want to settle this water matter now. I want to earn more money to settle this issue.”

As for the cost of living, Iamua knows everyone struggles with it.

“If I find a job, the first thing is our water bill. We need water badly everyday.”
