Leave family planning alone

Dear Editor,

P.M. blasts family planning again

Stui is the idiot for criticising family planning.

Obviously the P.M. hasn’t been watching the news about the child vendors and all the other young people wandering the streets because they don’t have jobs.

Stui’s theory of having a large population for its accrued economic benefits work well in developed countries where there are industries crying out for a well educated workforce.

And the theory goes that an economy needs young people to work to pay for the costs of looking after the old people.

There are not enough industries at present in Samoa to cope with the increased demand of a young population like Samoa has at present and you don’t want to add to that.

Once N.Z. and Australia and to a lesser extent, the U.S. decide to reduce or stop the number of Samoans migrating to these countries, the social, economic and other problems from a large population would soar to heaven.

I suggest to Stui that he leaves family planning to family planners and population studies and policy making to the demographers.
